Information We Collect
US Auto Repair Guide is a free directory. You do not need an account, and there are no sign-up or quote forms. The information involved is limited to:
- Request data: like any website, our hosting provider (Render) and network provider (Cloudflare) receive standard request information such as your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time, in order to deliver pages and protect the site against abuse.
- Preferences kept in your browser: your language and, if you set one, your search area. These stay on your device, as described under Data Storage.
- Messages you send us: if you email us, for example to report a listing correction, we receive your email address and whatever you include in the message.
How We Use Information
We use this information to:
- Deliver pages, keep the site secure and fix technical problems
- Remember your language and search area on your device
- Reply to your messages and correct directory listings
- Show advertising that keeps the directory free, as described under Advertising and Cookies
We do not sell your personal information for money, and we do not currently use analytics or tracking tools of our own.
Third-Party Services
Shop pages include an embedded Google Map of the listed address. When that map loads, Google receives your IP address and may set cookies under the Google Privacy Policy. The optional Find my area feature may contact GeoJS, as explained below. Links to shop websites take you to sites we do not control, which have their own privacy practices.
Advertising and Cookies
We use, or may use, Google AdSense to show ads. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
You can opt out of personalized advertising in Google’s My Ad Center, and opt out of some other vendors’ use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info. Where the law requires it, such as for visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we ask for your consent before personalized ads are shown. Apart from advertising and the Google Map, the site itself does not set cookies.
How Google uses information from sites that use its services
Optional IP Location
Location lookup runs only when you click Find my area. It uses an approximate IP-based state and city, not GPS. When available, we use location information supplied by our hosting platform. Otherwise your browser contacts GeoJS, which receives your public IP and normal connection information. We send only the resulting country, state and city to our server to match directory listings. This feature does not save your IP address or precise coordinates. Hosting and third-party services may process connection information under their own policies. VPNs, proxies and mobile networks can make the result inaccurate. You can choose an area manually or clear it at any time.
Data Storage
Your language preference is kept in browser local storage. Your selected search area is kept in session storage for this tab; saved areas older than 30 minutes are not restored. The state and city are sent to our server when validating an area or filtering listings. Clear removes the saved search area, and you can also remove browser storage through your browser settings.
Your Choices and Rights
You can:
- Turn off personalized ads in Google’s My Ad Center or at aboutads.info
- Block or delete cookies and clear site storage in your browser settings
- Ask us what information we hold about you, or ask us to delete messages you have sent
- Depending on where you live, such as California, use additional rights under state privacy law, including opting out of targeted advertising
Children's Privacy
Our website is not intended for children under the age of 13, and it is not directed at children for advertising purposes. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
